Recognizing American Patriotic Music through "Yankee Doodle" & "America the Beautiful" by Miguel Carlos
Patriotic music encourages feelings of national unity. They can come in the form of national songs, hymns and even military themes. Below are two examples of popular patriotic songs in the US.
"Yankee Doodle"
Who among us have not heard of this song? It s not only a popular children's song, it is also one of America's patriotic songs. As a matter of fact, it is the state song of Connecticut.
The problem with the song is that despite its popularity, there are those who scrutinize it for the way it made fun of American troops. Thus, this song still became a part of American patriotism.
We can trace the origin of this song to old English folk music. It emerged prior to the American Revolution. It is how the British mocked American soldiers. This is how the term "yankee" came about as a negative term for the Americans. For "doodle", the term implies "simpleton" or "fool".
With regards to its inclusion in the American Revolution, when the Americans or "Yankees" began taking the British into the Revolution, they were also able to take command over this song. They started singing it proudly as a way to taunt English soldiers.
"America the Beautiful"
This is an American folk song that is often referred to as the national hymn of the US. This piece was adapted from Katharine Lee Bates, a Wellsely College English professor. She wrote in the year 1893 during her trip to Colorado. It mentions the beauty of the country she is traveling to. According to her, she got her inspiration from her visit to Pike's Peak.
The original version of this piece, only had four verses. After a while, they expanded it to eight verses and revised the lyrics. It was used by The Congregationalist to commemorate Independence Day in the year 1895. It was Samuel Ward, a New Jersey composer who gave music to the poem. A combination of both the poem and the music was first heard in 1910.
Though there was talk that "America the Beautiful" may replace "The Star Spangled Banner", there's no indication that this would even happen - nor if it is even considered. Still, the song projects the physical beauty and breadth of the United States.

Spinning Reels of the Modern Fishing Tackle Industry by Vien Menguy

In 1966, the Atlanta Falcons became the first NFL franchise to be based in the southeast. As an expansion team, it took time for the Falcons to build a competitive team. Atlanta reached the postseason for the first time in 1978.

The 1998 season marked the highpoint for the franchise. Following an outstanding 14-2 regular season, the Falcons reached the NFC Championship Game. Against the 15-1 Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta won a dramatic 30-27 overtime decision to reach Super Bowl XXXIII.
While the Falcons came up short in a 34-19 setback against the Denver Broncos, Atlanta's first NFC title brought plenty of excitement to the city. Running back Jamal Anderson and quarterback Chris Chandler were two of the team's outstanding players in 1998.

Tips For Wagering On Major League Baseball - Part 1 by Nicky Michael
Major League Baseball is somewhat of an enigma. Especially when attempting to use statistics to predict a game's outcome. Even so, there is a lot of data and trends to consider before throwing one's hands up in utter frustration in baseball's defiance of probability. With patience and due diligence, a pattern may emerge. But then a gut feeling comes on and the urge to take the long shot is strong, especially when the pay out is big! The mountain of data, trends and statistics are enough to drive the sanest of us away from the bookmakers, relegating us to the sidelines. However, no one wants to live a life that boring. You can play the game - wager some cash - and make your life a whole lot more exciting.
First off, here are a few ideas to keep your sanity. These are my "top 10 baseball wagering tips for the hopelessly clueless," of which, when it comes to wagering, I am a charter member. If you consider yourself a knowledgeable bettor, these tips will still help you keep your perspective.
1) Don't bet any more than you can afford to lose.
2) Don't ever bet more to recoup a loss.
3) Ignore your gut feelings and/or hunches.
4) If a bet looks too good to be true, it probably is.
5) Once you've made your bet, remember that no amount of stress will change the outcome of a game.
6) Never risk more than 5% of your bankroll on any given game.
7) Don't bet long shots. They are long shots for a reason.
If you are on a losing streak, take a break from wagering.
9) Don't hold grudges over losses- your favorite team won't be much fun to watch if you do.
10) Target long-term goals instead of random or short-term gains.
If you follow these 10 tips then you will be head and shoulders above the average Joe who is placing bets. Of course, you must first understand what you are doing when you wager. Here are some betting basics.
A straight bet is merely betting to win or lose. Sometimes you may not be able to get such a wager without giving or taking points. This is known as the point spread. To win you must "beat the spread", or win by more than a particular team is favored by doing so. This is also known as a form of handicapping. Money lines are pretty simple; it is the amount you need to risk to win $100. So if you see a number in a column marked ML, perhaps -110, you know you need to put up $110 to win $100 and get your $110 back. So if you win, your total payout is $210. The minus sign indicates that team is the favorite. A plus sign in front of the money line indicates the underdog. With over/unders, you are wagering on the total runs that will be scored in the game. You either bet on the number being under or over that total. Action Points refer to that fact that you are betting one team against another. With action points you ignore the starting pitchers, but if there is a change in one or both of the starters, the wager or the payout could be adjusted. Side bets are just what they sound like. You can put side bets on top of your bets. With head to head propositions or match bets you are wagering on one sports figure/team beating another sports figure/team. You can also Buy Points on a handicapped or point spread contest. Usually a straight buy of 1/2 point will cost you $10 on an 11/10 (risk $110 to win $100) standard bet. A straight buy of 1 point would cost $20. If you win, you'll get back what you wagered plus $100. Sports books generally make 10% vigorish, or juice on a typical head to head straight wager. They only make it if you lose your bet.
Sports books will provide information in a compact format. The listing includes the MLB teams and pitchers with the away or visiting team and pitcher listed first and then the home team and pitcher listed underneath. The MLB money line tells you which team is the favorite (- sign) and what you must wager to win a particular amount. The MLB run line is the run differential that the sports book predicts. To win your wager, you have to beat the run line spread. The amount you wager is determined by the money line odds, located right next to the run line spread. Primarily the starting pitchers determine the money line odds. If a run line handicap is +1.5, the bet can still be won if your team loses the game, but only if they lose by one run. If they lose by two runs, you lose your wager. Run lines are always based on the listed pitchers. If the starting pitchers are changed before the game begins, these numbers may also change. The over/under will be a number in the O/U column. If the number were 7, then you would win the wager if the total number of combined runs were 8 or more. A winning under wager would result if 6 runs or less were scored.
All of this may seem rudimentary, but it's the important foundation for MLB betting. Wagering can be as simple or as complicated as you make it. There are some more complex forms of wagering that are beyond the scope of this article. The Arizona Cardinals Preparing For A Huge Comeback by Abel Lawson
A team in the National Football league that is one of the most watched in the league is the Arizona Cardinals. The team has been making a name for themselves not only in Arizona but in the entire United states as well. The team was started in 1898 making the Cardinals the oldest professional American football club in the United States. The team was originally situated in Chicago. The team moved to St Louis Missouri in 1960 to 1987. The team moved to Arizona in 1988 to prevent the confusion with the baseball team St Louis Cardinals. The supporters of the team continued to show their support despite the many migration the Cardinals made in the past. As the team moved from state to state, they acquired more patrons for the Cardinals Tickets.
The team has won two league championships already. They got these while still playing in Chicago. These games were won before the years of the Super Bowl. However, the team has made 8 appearances in the playoffs already. The Cardinal tickets to such games are easily sold out. Six Division championship titles has also been won by the team.

The location of the University of Phoenix Stadium is also more accessible to the public.

FADING GIANTS---The Tendency for Recognized Leaders to "Lose It" as Mega Builders by Eileen Silva

It was a rare moment in networking history: four people with high MLM visibility sat together around one table. One was the man who revolutionized the diet industry, exploding his company to over 300 million within 4 years of its launch and building dozens of million-dollar earners in his 30-year tenure in the MLM industry.
On his left was another legend of MLM--- heir to one of the largest MLM fortunes to ever be amassed and owner of the company that was, arguably, the most charismatic and wealthy meteoric-rise-to-riches ever to hit our industry. My husband, Taylor Hegan, and I, who have made in excess of three million dollars the last few years, as well as creating over a dozen other millionaires in the last decade, rounded out the circle.
When the subject of industry leaders' ability to repeat their successes as they move from one company to another came up, we collectively decided that very few "big" leaders are able to change companies and repeat their track records.
Perhaps the most compelling reason for this is the nature of the dream we sell: "Build an empire that you can manage from the beaches of the world." "Create financial freedom, which gives you the time freedom to spend with your family and your hobbies."
We, who have actively helped mold the industry for the last three decades, have noticed that those who hit the big incomes seldom continue to build and work the business aggressively from a recruitment and growth emphasis after their checks surpass $20,000 a month. In light of that sabotage phenomena, I thought it would be useful to offer up some guidelines to help you avoid becoming a statistic once you hit it big!
I suggest that you: 1. Hire a staff to help you run your business like a business; 2. Never abandon doing the leadership steps that got you there. These include: retailing, advertising, sponsoring, mentoring, training, personal development work, leadership management, daily communication, and event planning. With the current trend in compensation payouts and telecommunication systems, as well as recruiting systems, distributors tend to develop their loyalty to their products and company. One of the biggest money earners of all time recently made this interesting statement: "If I wanted to leave my company today (after more than a decade and $35 million commissions earned), I wouldn't be able to move people with me. They are all so product-bonded that it's not about me, or the lure of an opportunity; it's about the results they are creating through retailing systems and new recruiting systems."
In your less successful days I would encourage you to sponsor your weakness --- in other words--- if you don't like doing mail order, I would encourage you to sponsor someone who did. As you progress up the ladder of success with MLM, let me implore you to hire your weaknesses--- so that within your immediate direction, your office continues to execute all the necessary phases of the business.
Let me also suggest that at the very least you plug back in 10% of your income toward business expenses.... and quite possibly it would be appropriate to invest considerably more than that. Taylor and I spend many thousands per month on expenses, but as he is quick to point out that we have steadily amassed a fortune in the face of this expanded tab.
If you want to avoid becoming a fading giant, you must continuously assess your business developments and surround yourself with a mastermind group that will stimulate you to be the best you can be. Remember: the true great leaders of MLM are not necessarily the biggest earners; they are the most well- rounded performers with industry staying power. Make sure, as you take your career to the superstar level, that you remember the importance of continuing to execute the tasks that originally got you there! You will then be, as multi-millionaire, Charles Givens, has always said, "Ten feet tall and bulletproof."

Paramyotonia congenita by jekky
Symptoms and signs Patients typically complain of muscle stiffness that can continue to focal weakness This muscle stiffness cannot be walked off in contrast to myotonia congenita These symptoms are increased and sometimes induced in cold environments For example some patients have reported that eating ice cream leads to a stiffening of the throat For other patients exercise consistently induces symptoms of myotonia and or weakness Typical presentations of this are during squating or repetitive fist clenching Some patients also indicate that specific foods are able to induce symptoms of paramyotonia congenita Isolated cases have reported that carrots and watermelon are able to induce these symptoms The canonical definition of this disorder precludes permanent weakness in the definition of this disorder In practice however this has not been strictly adhered to in the literature Diagnosis Diagnosis of paramyotonia congenita is made upon evaluation of patient symptoms and case history Myotonia must increase with exercise movement and usually must worsen in cold temperatures Patients that present with permanent weakness are normally not characterized as having PC Electromyography may be used to distinguish between paramyotonia congenita and myotonia congenita Clinicians may also attempt to provoke episodes or myotonia and weakness paralysis in patients in order to determine whether the patient has PC hyperkalemic periodic paralysis or one of the potassium aggravated myotonias Genomic sequencing of the SCN4A gene is the definitive diagnostic determinant Pathophysiology Paramyotonia congenita as well as hyperkalemic periodic paralysis and the potassium aggravated myotonias is caused by mutations in a sodium channel SCN4A The phenotype of patients with these mutations is indicated in Table 1 These mutations affect fast inactivation of the encoded sodium channel There are also indications that some mutations lead to altered activation and deactivation The result of these alterations in channel kinetics is that there is prolonged inward depolarizing current following muscle excitation There is also the introduction of a indow current due to changes in the voltage sensitivity of the channel kinetics These lead to a general increase in cellular excitability as shown in figure 1 Figure 1 Theoretical simulation of a muscle membrane potential in response to 150ms depolarizing pulse of 45pA A Normal muscle produces only a single action potential due to such stimulus This is due to inactivation of sodium channels preventing their further activation even during depolarization B Myotonic muscle however is hyperexcitable and able to produce action potentials for the duration of the stimulus pulse This model adapted from Cannon 1993 There has been one study of a large number of patients with paramyotonia congenita Of 26 kindreds it found that 17 71 had a mutation in SCN4A while 6 29 had no known mutation There is no large difference between these two groups except that patients with no known mutation have attacks precipitated less by cold but more by hunger are much more likely to have normal muscle biopsies and show domain numbers C term refers to the carboxy terminus Treatment Management Some patients do not require treatment to manage the symptoms of paramyotonia congenita Others however require treatment for their muscle stiffness and often find mexiletine to be helpful Others have found acetazolamide to be helpful as well Avoidance of myotonia triggering events is also an effective method of mytonia prevention Epidemiology Paramyotonia congenita is considered an extremely rare disorder though little epidemiological work has been done Prevalence is generally higher in European derived populations and lower among Asians Epidemiological estimates have been provided for the German population Here it was estimated that the prevalence of PC is between 1 350 000 0 00028 and 1 180 000 0 00056 It should be noted however that the German population of patients with PC is not uniformly distributed across the country Many individuals with PC herald from the Ravensberg area in North West Germany where a founder effect is seems to be responsible for most cases The prevalence here is estimated at 1 6000 or 0 017 History Originally thought to be separate from hyperkalemic periodic paralysis and the sodium channel myotonias there is now considerable disagreement as to whether these disorders represent separate entities or overlapping phenotypes of a complex disorder spectrum External links
